Practicalities

Hotel accommodation costs are included in the Tour price. Exact hotel bookings are to be confirmed, but where bookings are confirmed websites are included in the preliminary itinerary. There may be an added fee for single occupancy, which we will advice as we get the bookings confirmed.

London, three nights. De Vere Devonport House is close to the river, the Cutty Sark and the National Maritime Museum.

Transport

Most of the tour will be one Mini Coach with the same driver, plus boat trips on the Thames, round Portsmouth Harbour and down the River Avon. Commentary will be provided where possible. Cost of the transport is included in the price, except where additional travel and personal sight-seeing and shopping trips are taken. All transport is provided with the exception of Flights and travel to the start and from the end of the tour, these costs will not be included in the Tour price.

Entrance to Museums & Sights

Cost for entrance to museums and sights on the main Historic Ships Tour will be included in the Tour price, additional sightseeing will be personal expense.

Food and Drink

Annemarie Victory, organiser of trips on board the classic ship Sea Cloud and former presenter of World Class Cuisine on Discovery Channel, testifies that British food has improved beyond recognition in the last 30 years – and cuisine from any part of the world is available.

Normally breakfast and dinner will be served in the hotel, but we will have some meals in the museum restaurants and have some meals planed in special locations. The cost of all meals on the Tour are included in the Tour price; meals taken away from the Tour are to be paid for separately by those individuals. Sadly we will not include alcoholic drinks in the Tour price, although there may be some celebratory times when we would provide.

Personnel on the Tour

There will be plenty of chance to meet fellow enthusiasts, and experts, curators and artists who will be invited to join us for dinner in different places. There will be a dedicated driver for this tour and courier to help make your tour run as smoothly as possible. Brian Lavery and his wife Sarah will travel with us and be on hand as our guide throughout the Tour.

Arriving and Meeting-Up for the Tour

We will meet the tour group at Heathrow Airport. The meeting time is 11:00AM on 26 August 2018 – if the optimum flights arrive a bit before or after this time, we will do our best to accommodate, the meeting place is comfortable so all can have refreshment and relax as we assemble.

When we know the various arrival times – we will coordinate between tour participants, enabling us to all meet successfully. We will personally meet the group and the mobile number +44 7762 154426 will be available to keep us connected and to help with any questions as we find each other. The tour will be heading off to Portsmouth for the first part of the tour by coach, which will collect us from Heathrow Airport. We will confirm which Terminal and which meeting point when we have all the flight information.

Those who wish to arrive earlier than 26 August or are staying on beyond 2 September may like to coordinate with me as to when and where would suit them best to join the Tour.
